Previous additions to the original house had been done in a haphazard fashion, and the entire structure had been allowed to fall into disrepair. The existing entry sequence lacked coherence and the kitchen was very small and inefficient. The new owners, who were moving to Tucson from northern California, wanted to completely renovate the house and improve the layout in a way that would accommodate both indoor and outdoor dinner parties and would also admit abundant natural light without excessive heat gain. My solution called for removing the badly designed and poorly built additions and relocating the entry in order to facilitate a reordering of the interior spaces. The finished home includes a large dining room, a fully modernized kitchen triple the size of the old, a new master bath and a large covered rear patio.
